Is it just me, or are there just too many “–ologies” out there? Theology, ecclesiology, eschatology—oh, and there are other multi-syllabic terminologies, too, like orthodoxy, orthopraxy, hermeneutics, rhamazeutics, and salmonellics. (If you can’t tell where I stopped using actual words and started poking fun—I just proved my point.)

Videos like this remind me of normal everyday ways I can make a difference in the lives of other people. And I can get started today, as I live my normal everyday life. By being present and noticing and listening to other people. Off The Map calls these spiritual practices ‘otherlyness’.

Todd Wilson, senior pastor of Calvary Memorial Church, is addressing the ‘discipleship deficit’ he’s noticed among evangelical Christians today. As he writes on his blog
even though forms of evangelical Christianity are widespread in American cultural and society, the actual depth and substance of our lives is rather thin. Although we’ve been good at winning converts, we’ve not been so good at making disciples.
